Hay Festival 2008
I spent three and a half days at the Hay festival, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. The festival itself wasn't so much about images, but I wrote notes on all the talks I went to.
It rained a lot. The grass and spirit held up, just.
I also went on a side-trip to the Blaenavon ironworks, which were quite spectacular. The excellent tour-guide, the local historian who was instrumental in having the site designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, was passionate and knew just about everything about the site.
A huge steam hammer at Blaenavon ironworks. This one was made in Manchester, so it's not clear whether this ironworks ate its own dog-food.
The ironworks site.
A wheelbarrow in which ore would be carted up to the top of the blast furnace.
The water-counterbalanced lift for getting lime down from the kilns on the hill above.
